How to Properly Use Dry Shampoo

Updated: Apr 11

Just yesterday, I had a client ask me to go over again how to use her Oribe products properly. She was having issues with her hair being oily after the first day of shampooing. We were walking through the steps on how to apply each product after she shampoos her hair. We discovered two things. One, she was only doing one shampoo after going 2 days in-between. (Blog: Back to the Basics) Second, she was not using the dry shampoo properly. We have found that if you use dry shampoo before you go to bed, the results of "clean hair" holds to be true. Applying it right before bed gives the product more time to absorb the dirt, oils and product build-up, so when you wake up in the morning, your hair feels and smells like it has just been shampooed.

Oribe's Gold Lust Dry Shampoo has celery seed extract to help reduce oil on the scalp. It also has lavender and chamomile, to moisturize, hydrate and soothe a dry, itchy scalp. I personally love this product because the translucent powders do not add grip or weight to my hair. It leaves it having body, but still soft and smooth. To use the Gold Lust Dry Shampoo properly, shake it well, spray section by section, (1-2 inches apart) holding eight inches from the scalp, moving in a continual motion along the section. If you are unsure how far 8" is away, it's the length of the Oribe can! Do this over the entire head. Set the bottle down and begin to shampoo your hair, massaging your scalp for 30-60 seconds. Then take a soft bristle brush, (my favorite is a Mason Pearson Brush) and brush your hair again for about 30 seconds. If you have naturally curly hair, you will want to skip the second step, and not brush your hair.

Dry shampoo is a must for your hair regimen. It prolongs your color, helps produce less oils by not shampooing daily, and last but not least, it gives you more time in your day to do what you love the most. Cheers to that!
